Belly up to the classroom: Spring classes start in SH

The Signal Hill Parks and Recreation Department is gearing up for a new series of community classes starting next week. Classes range from pre-school to adults and most are held at Discovery Well Park, located at 2200 Temple Avenue.
Starting on Monday, March 24, Carol Floyd will teach students the art of Tai Chi at her Tai Chi/Chi Kung class. Discover and activate internal energy through soft, flowing movements, meditation, breathing, posture and mind intent. The course is for ages 16 and up and the cost is $50 for eight weeks. Sessions take place Mondays from 7 p.m. to 8:15 p.m.
Beginning Belly Dancing is also being offered starting April 3 for five weeks. Learn basic posture while boosting self-esteem and getting reacquainted with the body. The course is Thursdays from 7:15 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The cost is $40 and is for people 15 years and older.
For the little ones ages 3 to 6, spaces are still available for Rosier Abacede’s Pre-Ballet/Creative Movement course. Students can enjoy an introduction to dance and music Mondays from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. from April 21 to May 19. The cost is $30 for the five-week class, and students are asked to wear leotards and ballet shoes.
And for those new to the computer, the Introduction to Microsoft Word class teaches first-time users the basic essentials at a slow pace. Participants will learn basic menu functions and toolbars as well as how to create, save, retrieve, organize, print and delete documents.
The computer course is for people ages 18 and up and takes place on Wednesdays from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. starting April 23 until May 14. The cost is $44 for four weeks and classes will be taught at Signal Hill Library, located at 1770 East Hill Street.
