  1. I want to thank you for the call to writers. There were some touching pieces in this edition. I hope you do it again. I happen to know one of the contributors – AJ Fogleman. I knew him since his childhood – as a neighbor – as a friend – and at one point he lived with me for a few months. He had the hardest childhood I have ever seen – and as the eldest daughter of the woman who took in 47 foster children – I have seen some tough lives. AJ spent a good portion of his adult years in prison. I found him there 15 years after we lost touch. He was in Pelican Bay in solitary confinement. Since he got out, he has struggled to overcome addiction, but he is still one of the most talented, handsome, intelligent and gifted men of my acquaintance. He was always bald-faced honest as a child and his writing shows that he has retained that sterling quality. Tears were streaming down my cheeks as I read his poetry and prose. How deep is the ocean of despair? I know something of the depths because of my relationship with AJ.

    1. Thank you Corliss Lee. I always give credit to you for nurturing my writing and art. You have played a pivotal role in my life and I thank you a million times over for investing your time in me when the world turned without me. You are an amazing woman and I am honored to call you friend and family.
Thank you as well to the Signal-Tribune for the opportunity and for publishing my work. I most definitely feel validation for the time I put in. Thank you.
