One of the most popular locations for breakfast in the country, the International House of Pancakes plans to serve millions of pancakes for free in celebration of National Pancake Day on Tuesday, Feb. 24. What’s the catch? There is none, actually, but in return, IHOP workers will ask for a kind donation to benefit the Children’s Miracle Network, a nonprofit organization geared toward supporting children’s hospitals and other relevant causes. In addition, Miracle Balloons will be sold for one dollar each.
Last year, the effort raised $875,000 for the Children’s Miracle Network, and IHOP wishes to exceed the million-dollar mark this year. Local student and activist Dina Cardona is rounding up a group to eat for the special event. “As a supporter of the Children’s Miracle Network, my family and I dined at IHOP last year and donated the menu price of a shortstack to the cause,” she said. “It didn’t feel like a hassle or unreasonable altruism because we paid what we would normally have spent for the pancakes.”
Local IHOPs in the area include 700 E. 45th Street in Long Beach, 5316 Lakewood Blvd. in Lakewood, 1101 E. Pacific Coast Highway in Long Beach, and one at 2050 N Bellflower Boulevard in Long Beach. They will be offering the free pancakes from 7am to 10pm.
