Long Beach Emblem Club #106 installed its new corps of officers on March 23 at the Bellflower Long Beach Elks Lodge 888. Sharon Eidinger, a former president, took over the gavel for the 2008-09 year. President Maggie Beck presided over the first portion of the event which closes out her term. She presented a plaque to Rich Rose, exalted ruler of Bellflower Long Beach Elks lodge for her support and cooperation during their term.
Dan Kachel of the Long Beach Police Officers K-9 Corps Association was presented with a check for the association. Two dogs and their handlers accompanied Kachel.
Beck announced the organizations that were receiving donations from the club and introduced scholarship chairman Jody Finley to make the four scholarship awards. Dana Signman was there to receive hers, but three other students were unable to attend: Jordan Sigman, Casee Barnes and Autumn Pettifer. Two scholarships were for $2,000, and two for $1,000. Finley explained that GPA, community service and school participation were all taken into consideration in the committee decisions.
After completion of her business, Beck turned the gavel over to Barbara.
Colburn, past president of the Supreme Emblem Club of The United States of America, to install the new officers. She was assisted by her marshal, Ronda Auguston.
Installed with Eidinger were Mary Lou Clinton as corresponding secretary and La Moyne Freed as marshal. Beck was elevated to junior past president and will be responsible for the club’s community service projects for the next year.
