During her recent trip to her home country of Burma, 24-year-old Sundie Zin, an interior architectural design student at Cal State University, Long Beach, purchased homes and medicine for families who had lost everything in Cyclone Nargis last May. Several relief organizations believe Burma’s military-based dictatorship downplayed the death toll, which may have reached close to 250,000 with nearly 5.5 million people affected.
Though born and raised in Burma, Zin has been in the United States for 10 years. Her 12-day humanitarian trip was her first time back to the country, a decision that came easily when she heard about the destruction caused by the cyclone.
“Return to Burma,” a photo exhibit opening that Zin will host, will take place Monday, Oct. 6 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at CSULB’s Design Department Gallery in room 102.
