Families with young children are invited to a special tidepool presentation and guided walk to the rocky shore presented just for preschoolers and parents on Tuesday, December 23 from 1 pm to 3 pm. The interactive presentation will start at the aquarium’s John M. Olguin Auditorium, followed by a guided walk to the nearby Point Fermin State Marine Park.
The refuge offers protection to a variety of local tidepool animals and seaweeds. Among the organisms are tidepool sculpin, sea urchins, sea hares, hermit crabs, feather-boa kelp, and an occasional octopus. An accessible pathway leads to the edge of the tidepools.
The cost for this special tidepool walk is $5 per family. Call for reservations as space is limited. Non-slip shoes and outdoor clothing are recommended for navigating the slippery, rocky shore.
The aquarium is open weekends from 10 am to 5 pm and Tuesday through Friday from 12 noon to 5 pm. It is located at 3720 Stephen M. White Drive in San Pedro and is a facility of the City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks.
